Keep Playing — Support
Keep Playing keeps web video and audio running when you switch apps or lock the screen, with proper lock screen controls. Here is how to switch it on, what it does, and what it cannot do.
Turning it on
1. Open Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions.
2. Switch Keep Playing on.
3. Tap Keep Playing → Permissions → All Websites → Allow.
4. Start a video, then tap the “Play in background” button that appears over it.
What it cannot do
Playback stops if you force-quit Safari from the app switcher. At that point a Safari extension has no process left, and iOS grants extensions no background audio permission.
Switching apps or locking the screen is fine. Closing Safari outright is not. No Safari extension can do this — it is a limit of iOS, not a choice we made.
The floating button does not appear
It only appears while a video is actually playing and supports Picture in Picture.
If you hid it with a long press, reloading the page brings it back. You can turn it off entirely from the Behaviour tab in the app.
Auto-start does not work
iOS only grants Picture in Picture while the page still holds a recent tap from you. When that permission is withheld the automatic attempt fails silently, which is why the floating button remains the dependable way to start background playback.
